Knowing the basics ≠ making progress

I work with a lot of people who are stuck in their training, despite claiming to know the basics.

'Train hard. Eat enough. Sleep. Repeat.'

And yet, in my 15+ years of coaching and training, I’ve seen that knowing these things and actually making progress are very different.

Many of the people I coach are fellow coaches - people who know what to do better than anyone.

So what’s going on?

I think knowledge can be a dangerous thing. It gives the lazy part of our brains machine guns, when before it only had pointed sticks. Now we can rationalise poor training with PubMed links and deep anatomy knowledge. It opens the door to second-guessing every part of the programme.

That’s why people you’d consider 'less-informed' are making better gains. Sure, their plan might be “less optimal” on paper, but they show up and do the work. Consistently. With effort. Truthfully, I got some of the best gains of my life when I trained 'dumber' - just lifting with a group of friends. No fancy plan. But full commitment and brutal effort.

If you're a coach who’s sick of spinning your wheels and second-guessing every session:

You’re not naturally weak. And you’re definitely not at your genetic limit.

You’re just too close to your own training to act rationally.

That’s where coaching helps.

I look at your training with a clear head and a critical eye.We simplify. We build structure. We push hard AND smart.

And you make real, tangible progress.

P.S. I’ve got 2 coaching spots open right now. Once they’re filled, I’ll be running a waitlist.
